AmpLive Is In Disguise !

With the January 27th release of The Take Over growing closer by the day, Zion I’s AmpLive and Zumbi are fanning the flames of anticipation with the release of The Search and the Seizure Mixtape.

In keeping with the title of their forthcoming album, the mixtape finds the Bay Area duo commandeering other artists’ tunes. What did you expect? Sinatra covers?

The A-side, if you will, features a run of hip-hop classics, complemented with verses from Talib Kweli, Deuce Eclipse and Codany Holiday. The B-side finds Amp and Zumbi stepping into indie and electro territory, with remixes of Muse, Santogold, MGMT and much more, so boom-bap addicts and fans of Amp's recent remixes for Radiohead, Jamie Lidell, Tapes N Tapes and more should have plenty to sink their teeth into.

Even More Amplive

Fresh on the heels of his recent MGMT/Of Montreal mash-up, Bay Area producer Amplive has released a second remix from MGMT’s Oracular Spectacular. This time out he’s tackled “Of Moons, Birds & Monsters,” nicking the song’s finest synth line and fleshing out a track around exclusive verses from North Oakland MC Mistah Fab.

You might recognize Fab from the most recent Snoop single, “Life of the Party.” Or if you’re well versed in Bay bangers, you’ll recall his Ghostbusters-nodder “Ghost Ride It” and its endlessly entertaining video, wherein Fab and company ghost ride a short bus (no joke).

Either way, his turns here are memorable in and of themselves, and serve as the perfect compliment to Amplive’s shimmering synth-driven production.

Amplive Caught In A Remix!

In March, Oakland producer and Radiohead-remixer extraordinaire Amplive was asked to join a host of musicians at the blogger-curated Hot Freaks party at SXSW. His time in Austin led to some new and fruitful collaborations. Following in the tradition of his Rainydayz Remixes, Amplive has sliced and diced the work of Of Montreal, MGMT and Jealous Girlfriends, turning rock songs into squelching, thumping hip hop beasts. Here, Hissing Fauna deep-cut “Fabrege Falls For Suggie” finds itself pressed against the Oracular Spectacular closer, “Future Reflections” on the first track below. Meanwhile JG’s “Hieroglyphics” gets an Amplive makeover on the second. In other news, the reaction to Amplive’s Radiohead remix project has been nothing short of overwhelming, you can check out “Videotape” below.
