Follow The Indian Trails

Finnish band, Indian Trails was formed in early 2011, after 5 years of musical experiments by Nico Henry and Antti Mikael. The project started as a "Let's do little bit more laid-back music, with dancey vibe." It worked out very well, and the present form of Indian Trails formed about 2months ago.

With additional members joining over the last couple of months the band finally felt complete. Now ready to record and with songs in tow, the band plans on heading to the studio to record their debut EP in April.

They might be brand new, but they have a maturity beyond their, um, months together. The few songs they have are swirly, angular, and dancetastic. If the Futureheads were Finnish, their name would be Indian Trails. With songs such as these, their future looks ridiculously bright. Here's hoping we can follow those Indian Trails...

ESG Releases Best Of....

London’s iconic Fire Records is proud to announce the global release of the two-disc Dance To The Best of ESG from New York's legendary punk/funk family affair ESG (Emerald, Sapphire and Gold.)

For the very first time, all of the songs that made the band such an innovative influence are available in a single release. Covering their earliest Martin Hannett produced tracks such as "Moody" and "UFO" right through their more recent killer tunes, this compilation leans heavily on the foundation that made them one of the most sampled artists of all-time, while touching on every one of their stellar records.

Every cut runs deep and every ass had better shake. When ESG says dance you had better dance dammit!

The Wind Up Birds Get Wound Up

This time next week (on December the 6th) Sturdy Records is putting out Courage Now, For Tomorrow Will Be Worse, the new EP from Leeds’ almost embarrassingly brilliant post-punk literary genii The Wind-Up Birds.

They are larger than the average bird, have a grey, dour plumage and an unusually intense, piercing stare. They generally travel in a group of four males. The Wind-Up Birds are mainly recognised for their song. Once heard, no one can forget their awkward, screeching, unsettling call.

Sounding something like The Fall if they sobered up and beat up Art Brut, The Wind Up Birds are spiky, slightly out of sync, and properly angular in all the best way. This is the kind of band that bashes you on the side of the head with an Oxford Press Guide to Paleontology and then reads to you from it.

The Wind Up Birds are a fascinating lot and so is their new single.

Oval's Ringtones and Videos

In anticipation of the forthcoming O double album release (9/7), Markus Popp is debuting the video for "Ah!" (one of the more lengthier album tracks)! Amberley Productions, the creative force behind Oval's enigmatically organic "Kastell" music video, has created a video for Oval's "Ah!" whose every frame is as rich and meticulous as the notes of the song it accompanies. The video shows a group of contemporary dancers whose refined motions and postures are coated in a layer of dust, which provides a visceral visual counterpoint and element of vulnerability to the bristling delicacies of the music.

Just enigmatic enough to incite your senses, just concrete enough to constantly keep you guessing, this striking effort purports a very unique and sophisticated aesthetic - a superb and empathetic visualization of Oval's new meta music for the soul.

If that wasn't enough, Oval has also released a second Ringtone ep for absolutely nothing. This is a band so ahead of the game, they've already won it.

Watch Out The Streets On Fire

Referring to themselves as more of a collective than a band, The Streets On Fire members bring a unique set of experiences and influences. Says lead singer Chadwick, “We like to pull from infinite sources, from CB radios, to the way girls danced in the 80s, to the way people walked in the 70s.” Humor, diverse roots and the quest for a good time define the group. “We all like to dance” says Chadwick.

On July 20th, The Streets on Fire present their first full-length album, This is Fancy. Recorded over the course of four days with the help of friends at Woohoo Studios, the band kept a foot in the past using analog recording gear and tracking to a 1” 8-track MCI tape machine. Mixed by Alex Gross at Chicago’s famed Studio 11 and with the mastering touch of Shellac’s Bob Weston, the result is a decadently tattered, high-energy sound with a retro-aesthetic appeal.

Post punk with a bit of rock and roll thrown in, the take the past and strangle it, wring it, and rob it of everything it's worth and then chuck it aside. They then take all that mash it together with a bit of Gang of Four and come up with something that's theirs. Angular, raw, and speedy, these guys hurry their way through songs as if someone was out to get them. This is Fancy sounds like its going to be a paranoid delight...until that record escapes enjoy the single below...

Want More? Yes Please!

Finnish band Yes Please! was founded in 2003, when singer-guitarist Mikael Jurmu, guitarist Teppo Meriläinen and drummer Max Ahlström rehearsed in Max's grandmother kitchen. When they weren't eating what Max's grandmom was cooking, they were recording. They released their first EP Double Toast, Double Flavour was released in 2005 and followed by the Last Week EP in 2007.

While the band's early songs were sunny British indie rock. Today's output is a bit darker and less sunny, which is almost like a reflection of a Scandinavian winter. Their third EP, Cold Spell In Spring has attracted attention from around the world, especially track "Spring Comes Dancing On", which is was ranked in Allscandinavian.com as one of the most popular music videos of the year 2009.

Now their back with new single Boys and Girls and despite the name it is not a blur cover or single re-done. The tune is a fuzzed out rocker that almost has more in common with some form of disco punk than indie disco. Angular, rough, and containing hints of what you would swear would be the Rolling Stones, "Satisfaction," the tune ploughs through the spring thaw with hand claps, chant-like vocals, guitars bouncing off of each other and an inherent catchiness that only the Scandinavians can come up with. That would be good stuff then.
