Kid Sister Never Kisses & Tells

Who better to write the book on fun than the ever crush worthy Kid Sister? The MC born Melisa Young not only spent 2011 tearing down shows all over North America - from the Magic 8 Ball tour with A-Trak to NYC's 80,000 deep Electric Zoo festival - but managed to bring that boundless on-stage energy to studio sessions with some of today's most exciting producers.

The Kiss & Tell EP offers four of Kid Sister's latest jams with a diverse crew of collaborators. "Mickey" is a club workout from DJ innovators Nadastrom  while "Hide N Seek" pairs Kid Sis with rap absurdist Riff Raff and bass maestros Sinden & 5kin& Bone5. Hip-hop hero Scoop Deville (Snoop, Game, Fat Joe) mans the boards for "Cliq Claq" (as featured in Stella McCartney's recent runway shows) as well as a brand-new remix of KS mixtape favorite "Gucci Rag Top," now featuring a guest verse from fellow Fool's Gold spitter Danny Brown.

Still, it's Kid Sister's inimitable personality on and off the mic that brings these team-ups to life with swaggering verses and clever, lipstick-smeared punchlines to spare. Just like the pulpy romance novels that inspired it's title, Kiss & Tell offers pure pleasure for everyone. Word to the rap game Danielle Steel!

Ten Tracks You Need #66

Well lookie here...we're on time! Yes it's true, this is actually the third Ten Tracks You Need post this week. Damn...talk about keeping busy. Anyway, we're sort of organized for now and we've been keeping the email monsters at bay so with that kind of efficiency you can expect things to stay this way.

I know there has been loads of footie as of late, but has anyone realized yet, that the 2010 World Cup is less than a month away? Time flies when you're not on the pitch but the time for the mayhem and chaos of the Cup is about to get under way.

It will be interesting to watch, especially here in the States as once again the Americans are ranked in the top 15. Will they actually play or be stunned into submission by how the English, Europeans, and if they're lucky the South Americans play football? My guess is they'll lose to England make it out of the group with them and then promptly be eliminated in the second round. As for England...hopes are even higher and please dear god at least make it into the semis. Please...it's been 44 years since you've made it through to the end.

As for who will win it...I would love England to win it all...but there's this little team from down south called Brazil. And well you know, they're Brazil. They're one of the few teams you can just say that and everyone agrees. and knows what your talking about.

NiYi's Jungle Fever Kills

Niyi’s back! The multi-tasking - and talented – one-man musician, DJ, club promoter, fashionista and general boy-about-town recently released his six track EP Jungle Fever on Holloway Hit Factory - his own record label.

Since his last single Poached Eggs, Niyi’s been a busy dude. He was recently featured in a five-page shoot for Clash magazine’s October 2009 issue. He also ran his hugely popular weekly club night ‘I Heart Niyi’ at Punk in Soho for a year, which was graced each week with the crème de la crème of the fashion and music world (Lady Ga Ga performed live last year as part of London Fashion Week and Calvin Harris, Little Boots and Golden Silvers have all DJed).

It’s hard to sum up Niyi. The ex Central St. Martin students’ musical repertoire is refreshingly unpredictable. A softly-spoken “rapper”, Niyi cannot be lumped into existing categories and so forges his own genre-bending music which is represented on Jungle Fever. How he found the time to record the single is beyond me, but after a couple of listens, I think you'll agree it's a good thing he did.

This One's For The 904...

Well...those of us in Riverside anyway.

This post comes to Riverside via London thanks to Peo De Pitte aka Peo Häggström.

Originally from Stockholm Sweden but freezing his ass off, Peo Häggström did what any normanl person would do and move to Hawaii. Just kidding after leaving Stockholm, Peo jumped across the North Sea and wound up in London to start and manage his own label, FlatOut Records, from a bit more temperate clime. The label is Peo's creative outlet for his two aliases Peo de Pitte and Haggstrom.

Using a combination of rare groove beats and synths up the ying yang Peo has gone about things a bit differently and incidentally made him one of the more interesting new producers to emerge lately.

With remixes and releases on labels including Fingerlickin’, Global Underground, LOT49, U&A and Champion Records it is no surprise that he has won huge support worldwide in a short amount of time. The guy has been so busy in fact that he's already found himself on Radio 1 and Kiss 100.

If these re-works are any indication of what his originals are like it's no wonder he's getting all the support he's getting.

It's Filewile

Andreas Ryser (Dustbowl) and Daniel Jakob (Dejot) started out in 2003 as mobile laptop street musicians at the gates of the Sonar festival. This swiftly gave their freshly minted group, Filewile, an international reputation.

During endless rehearsals for a Flamenco theatre-dance piece under the hot sun of southern Spain, DJ Dustbowl and musician and singer Dejot come up with the concept for Filewile, by following a strict DIY strategy. Music, production, distribution, concerts, merchandise would all be done by themselves allowing them to enjoy all the freedom, but take on all the responsibility as well.

Six years on, their DIY approach is successful as they have a handful of tunes, and two albums under their belt. Now, just a few months after the release of their sophomore album, Blueskywell Filewile are back yet again with a new single entitled Number One Kid.

Truth be told, the single is just about unclassifiable. It's a whole host of electronic influences smashed together into something that's twisted and tuneful and very worldly. It's electro and hip influenced, but it's so much more than just that...it has a vibe that aspires to be something more and it succeeds not only because it sounds different but because it's also quite good. The single features mixes by Robot Koch, Algorythm & Blues, Mercury and Ramax and comes with a wonderful video clip by Jan Muehletaler (Roja Media).

Eek...it's Egadz!

After establishing an amazing worldwide following with his first two albums Monotony and Shining Hours, Egadz! continues to prove why he is one of the most flexible and eclectic artists in the Electronic genre. His latest album, Egadz Is Dead features his signature style of melodic - half acoustic - psychedelic electronica.

Egadz Is Dead is all over the place in a sci-fi movie extravaganza. It's instrumental works jump between dramatic and quiet to aggressive and filled with fat basses and big beats. It's an album filled with songs just waiting for a movie to be constructed around them. Egadz Is Dead is a versatile record that should only further the legend that's become Egadz!

While Egadz is Dead is the final album from Egadz!, it is not the final project from creator Erik Nava. We'll just have to wait and see who comes calling first...a new band or Hollywood.

I Need An XL

One of the pioneering multi-format dj's in Vancouver, Jon Hamlin was a mash-up artist before the term even existed. Known by his peers to be able to mix just about any genre into a seamless blend of pure party magic, Jon has left a trail of satisfied party goers wherever he has played.

In 2008, iamxl remix productions began to appear online and began circulating amongst various dj's the world over. Jon developed the iamxl persona to symbolize and celebrate musical diversity and his remix credits exemplify this. As a producer his tastes are varied and in a very short span he has already touched on downtempo house, hip-hop, gipsy punk, rock, and banging electro.

Having returned to Vancouver in March 2009, iamxl is once again making an impact on the Vancouver party scene. Whether it be upbeat hip-hop, disco, punk rock, latin, 80’s, or electronic bangers, any genre is fair game in Jon’s eyes.

Don't believe me? The guy has taken the Discovery Channel and put it into a mash-up. He's nuts and when he's not touring around playing records for people, he's bolted down to a chair in front of a computer working on tracks that will make your feet do things they don't want to do. He's got a smorgasbord of new tracks on offer right now that run the gamut. iamxl is a true talent who clearly has the knack for knowing how piece together songs in ways never before imagined.

He truly is the mad Canadian remixer.

Wakey Wakey...

I love it when mysterious emails come my way. You get a name and a handful of tracks. No bio, no information, nothing. Now, if I wanted to, I could actually use a couple resources at my fingertips and find out, but why bother, that's half the fun. The mystery is what makes these things so cool.

All that brings me to my point and my post, I got a mysterious email from a Brooklyn DJ/producer (insert things you do w/computers and music here) Peter High who's sent some tracks. Going under the guise of Wake Up Wake Up he keeps himself under wraps and lets his work speak for itself. Working in the shadows and under the cover of darkness, he's reworked a whole host of stuff and judging by what I've seen and heard it's all pretty damn good. Residing somewhere within the world of downtempo and maybe even synthpop proper Wake Up Wake Up has no problems taking a remix down the lush and slow route whether it be hip hop or an upfront banger. It makes for some damn good early morning listening when you need to Wake Up. See and hear for yourself...

Fukkk Off!

Bastian 'Fukkk Offf' Heerhorst has been renowned for some time in his hometown of Hamburg for storming live sets in the clubs scattered around the city’s red light district. "Die sündige Meile" or "the sinful mile" as it is known, has seen its walls shaken and thighs quaked by the throbbing depths of Bastian's big room Fukkk Offf sound.

After the first two singles 'I'm A Freak' and 'Rave Is King', Fukkk Off just dropped his debut full length album Love Me, Hate Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me. If the first single, Love Me, Hate Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me is any indication of what the record is like then prepare yourself accordingly as it's a killer. "LMHMKMKM" is a destroyer of all who oppose it. It's like a long lost electroclash single from 2002 that just happened to magically appear. It's a dirty, scuzzy, fuzzed out monster that sounds like Adult. on copious amounts of speed or Paris Hitler gone totally wrong (oh wait...).

"More Than Friends," on the other hand is like a 1980's Power 96 Jam that's run through the 2009 electro remix processor and blasted out with enough stabs and squelches to last a life time. Electro-hop, hip house, call it whatever the hell you want, it's a blast from the past that's been updated for your convenience.
