All Tiny Creatures

All Tiny Creatures, a Madison-based experimental pop quartet recording for the Hometapes label, will embark on a string of U.S. tour dates this September, including shows in Brooklyn, Washington DC, and at Raleigh's Hopscotch Festival . To whet appetites, Hometapes is releasing the MP3 single "An Iris." Featuring vocal contributions from Justin Vernon, this track is a sneak peek of what's to come from All Tiny Creatures, a band led by Thomas Wincek (who you know from Volcano Choir and the venerable Collections of Colonies of Bees). Hometapes will release All Tiny Creatures' album Harbors in early 2011. And for instant gratification? The An Iris Mixtape.

Yes, a real tape.

Limited to a pressing of 250, An Iris Mixtape is a continuous audio experience leading off with "An Iris" (which, in addition to Vernon, features vocals by Matthew Byars of label mates The Caribbean). Among the six tracks are four tape-exclusive pieces, one including instrumentation by Ryan Potts (a.k.a. Aquarelle, All Tiny Creatures September tour mate), and one, another clue to the bounty of Harbors: Side B's outstanding song "Cargo Maps" featuring Roberto Carlos Lange (a.k.a. Helado Negro, Epstein). It rings out like an anthem for some faraway land, like the soundtrack for a time lapse film of your own dreams.

The tape, a beautiful object in spot-colored board packaging, will be available on tour with All Tiny Creatures, and soon via mail order (while supplies last) from Hometapes.
